Policy note
Broken glass in a ground floor maisonette
Glass is a short section of the conditions and a busy one, and most of it turns on what the glass was part of.
A ground floor maisonette carries what comes down from the floors above and what comes up from the ground beneath, and the conditions deal with the two under separate headings.
What follows is the ordinary position at Noorderdijk. The policy schedule and the conditions document together are what a claim is assessed against, and where this note and those documents differ, those documents are the ones that count.
02
What the policy covers here
- Window and door glass that is part of the building.
- The frame, where the frame was damaged along with the glass.
- Boarding up until the glass can be replaced.
03
What it does not cover here
- Glass in furniture, mirrors and picture frames, which sit under the contents section.
- Glass that was cracked before the policy started.
- Scratches, chips and marks that do not go through the glass.
- Greenhouse and cold frame glass, which the schedule names separately.
Whether a pane belongs to the building or to the contents settles most glass claims, and the schedule answers it before anything breaks.
