How the company started
Noorderdijk began in 1931 as a fund shared between four housing associations on the south bank of the Maas. The members paid in each quarter, and the fund paid out when a fire or a storm took a roof off.
The fund became an insurance company in 1968, kept the practice of writing to its members rather than calling them, and moved into the office it still occupies in 1994.
The product range grew from buildings to contents, then to the everyday risks around a household, and last to travel.

How we work
- Everything is in writing. A question, an answer, a report and a decision all leave a record that both sides can read again later.
- The people who handle claims are employed here. Assessment is not passed to an agency.
- A complaint is read by someone who did not take the decision it is about.
- Prices are the same whoever asks for them. Nothing about a quotation depends on how long you have been a customer.

The office is in Rotterdam, and post reaches it at the address on the contact page. There is no counter to visit: the work is done by post and by email.
