Theft and break ins in a terraced house

Theft is the one situation where the paperwork done long beforehand decides how quickly everything after it goes.

A terraced house shares two walls, so damage that starts next door can finish here. The conditions treat a party wall as part of the building it stands in.

What follows is the ordinary position at Noorderdijk. The policy schedule and the conditions document together are what a claim is assessed against, and where this note and those documents differ, those documents are the ones that count.

02

What the policy covers here

  • Things taken from the home after somebody forced a door, a window or a lock.
  • The damage the forcing did, the door and the frame included.
  • Replacing locks and keys after keys were taken.
03

What it does not cover here

  • Things that went missing with no sign of a break in.
  • Money and valuables above the amount the schedule names for them.
  • Theft by somebody living in the home.
  • Things left in an unlocked shed, garage or porch.

A receipt, a photograph and a serial number turn a report about a missing thing into a report about a specific thing. Nothing else does that job as well.
