Checking a bicycle kept in the hall

Checking a bicycle kept in the hall costs ten minutes now, or a fortnight later.

A bicycle in a hall is the thing most often taken out of a home and the thing least often written down before it goes.

Photograph the frame number under the bottom bracket, and the whole bicycle in a second picture. The pair identifies it years later.

Worth doing

  • Photograph the whole bicycle and the frame number on the same day.
  • Keep the purchase receipt with the photographs, not in a different drawer.
  • Use a lock indoors as well, and note what kind it is.
  • Take the photographs again after a repair that changes how it looks.
